Literary Terms to Know Pre-Assessment: Vocabulary Related to Literary Texts and Informational Texts for ELA Middle School and High School

Literary Terms List:

At the start of the school year (or semester), I use the literary terms checklist provided on the next page to gauge my students’ familiarity with various terms. This helps me identify which terms they are already acquainted with and which ones they find unfamiliar.

Throughout the year (or semester), I incorporate their feedback into my lesson planning. Then, toward the end of the year, I ask them to revisit the checklist. This allows them to observe their progress and recognize the growth they've made since the beginning of the course, as they identify the terms they've learned along the way.
